National survey data (n=4,008, ages 18–24) on how young adults think about civic knowledge, democratic commitment, and engagement — baseline evidence for practitioners designing youth-facing bridging or civic-education work.
About this research
This national survey, fielded by the Institute for Citizens & Scholars in August 2023, polled 4,008 U.S. adults ages 18–24 (margin of error ±1.5%, weighted to demographic and political benchmarks) on their civic knowledge, democratic commitment, and civic engagement. Described by the organization as a first-of-its-kind look at this age group, the survey and its accompanying analysis were used to identify gaps in young adults’ civic readiness that inform the organization’s civic-education programming recommendations.
