The Values We Share: What People Want From Government

Key Finding

Identifies four values — accountability, compassion, dignity, opportunity — that hold across the ideological spectrum, giving bridging practitioners evidence-based common-ground language.

About this research

Commissioned by PolicyLink from Worthy Strategy Group, this study used a metaphor-elicitation exercise followed by 75-minute in-depth interviews with 48 participants drawn from six ideologically, demographically, and geographically diverse attitudinal segments built from PolicyLink’s prior research. It finds that despite political differences, participants converged on four shared values they want government to embody — accountability, compassion, dignity, and opportunity — offering practitioners common-ground language that holds across the ideological spectrum.
