Early Insights into Strengthening and Scaling Pluralism Work in America

Key Finding

Identifies common patterns and gaps in how national “Field Builder” organizations define and scale pluralism-building work — practical for organizations weighing how to scale their own bridging programs.

About this research

This is a qualitative analysis by Third Plateau, commissioned by New Pluralists, examining 35 grant applications plus interviews with two additional groups (37 organizations in all) submitted to its 2022 Network Fund, using inductive and deductive coding against established scaling and systems-change frameworks. It finds that most applicants organize their work around the concept of “belonging” and favor narrative or cultural-change strategies over policy change, and that far more organizations plan to scale geographically than to deepen existing programs — a pattern useful for funders and practitioners benchmarking their own scaling strategies.
